Building toilet blocks

I initiated a fundraising drive on Milaap seeking funds to support the WE club of Vasant Vihar Charitable Trust, Mumbai to build toilets in Jawahar Vidya Bhawan school, Chembur. The school has over 2000 children studying from class 1 to Class 10 and the girls of this school needed clean and well-maintained toilets which are a necessity and a universal right. I raised around 55,000 Rupees and built around 5 toilet blocks for girls. Once the construction was completed, I was invited to cut the ribbon and inaugurate the toilet block. I was facilitated and asked to deliver a speech on sanitation, crowdfunding and the importance of having clean and well-maintained toilet blocks. Through my speech, I tried to spread awareness about the numerous illnesses that could be caused due to the lack of clean toilets, and I also made sure that every girl understood how imperative hygiene and sanitation is. This act of social service was further recognized when I got nominated and shortlisted for the Rashtriya Pradhana Mantri Baal Puraskar Award which is a national award awarded by the President of India. The satisfactory smile on the face of those girls made my day and motivated me to continue serving the society. During my time researching about the project, I learnt about how important healthy practices and sanitary facilities are for women and I came to understand how much I have and how much more I should value things. I am really grateful to have gotten the opportunity to do something for the betterment of the society and to have made the society a cleaner and safer place for girls my age.

Tree plantation and hand hygiene!

On 26th June 2024, I visited Little Leaders, A Multiple Activity Centre where the goal was to educate children of age 2-5 years about the importance of afforestation, hygiene and healthy habits. The session started with an interesting activity where the children learnt about how soap keeps away germs and dirt followed by a jingle which made washing hands fun and interesting. This experience involved demonstrating proper techniques and I explained the steps clearly which included wetting hands, applying soap, scrubbing thoroughly for 20 second and singing “Happy Birthday” twice. This informative yet immensely necessary session was followed by a tree plantation activity where the kids were introduced to cocopeat, soil and seeds. The importance of trees and plants was explained, and the kids planted the seeds while promising to water and take care of the plant every day. This entire session was highly interactive and interesting as the students participated in a variety of activities that they had never known about. Sanitation and hygiene was prioritized throughout the session and environmental sanitation was put forth in a fun way.
